Airplanes and sleeping well are two things that have probably never been synonymous in the history of man. Just thinking about a long flight with cramped leg space, back pain and crying children makes me want to forever give up on the idea of getting a good night’s rest. Despite all of the downsides, flying is still one of the best ways to get around and it pays to be able to get some rest while in the air, especially if you’re on a super long flight from America to Asia.

1. Book A Seat Near The Emergency Exit

This tip is important for two reasons. There tends to be significantly more leg space near emergency exits, so if you book your seats in that area you end up a lot more comfortable than you would if you had not.

The other reason this is super important is because the further you are from the center of the plane the more likely you are the feel any sort of turbulence that occurs. That nauseating rocking and shaking is more than enough to wake up many people and ruin an otherwise comfortable flight. So, remember to book your seats near the center for a much more stable flight and nap.

2. Schedule A Flight That Matches Your Natural Sleep Patterns

Like to sleep at 2 AM after watching Netflix all night? Well then, book your flight for that sort of time. This one is pretty simple and probably much better for your wallet. Think about it, most people try to schedule their flights in the middle of the day. Those flights cost some serious money and are often full of other people following suit. Creating good bedtime habits will definitely help you to get better rest during a over night flight.

3. Exercise Or Get A Massage Before Your Flight

This one is pretty simple but does a lot to put you in the relaxed state. So, you can go running, go to the gym or do yoga or even do some stretches to kill your back pain and relax. Of course, it’s easier said than done but we do have a pretty easy solution for you: just get a massage. It’ll relax you by working out any aches and pains you have prior to your flight so that when it comes time to fly you’re relaxed and ready. We have a huge suite of Naipo Massagers to choose from, so there really is not excuse to not get relaxed before your big flight.

Extra tip: get a Travel Pillow. Will boost enormously your relaxation during a long flight. Even better if it’s made of Memory Foam.

4. Wear Compression Leggings

This one is a bit unorthodox but many people complain that their legs fall to sleep on long flights This happens because your blood circulates more slowly during flights and this may lead to the sore feeling you get when you sit down for way too long. One way to combat his feeling is by using compression leggings. Many sports companies offer compression leggings that put pressure on key points on your legs to ensure blood flow.

5. Use Melatonin

Melatonin is a naturally-occurring hormone in the body that tells your body it’s time to go to sleep. It naturally follows that this is something that you can use to help you sleep on your flights. we do not suggest using this on short flights, however, because it will interfere with your sleeping pattern if you take it too early in the day. This is definitely something for longer flights only

6. Eat A Big, Carb-Heavy Meal Before Your Flight

If you, understandably, don’t want to take melatonin you can opt to overeat a bit more than you normally would. Try to prefer vegetables over meat meals to stay healthy during your frequent travels. I’m sure you’ve experienced the sleepy side effects of overeating a bit: you get really tired. We suggest you don’t go too crazy with it however or you might end up spending far more time in the bathroom than you’d like.
