We all have those days – maybe every day, for some — when we’re rushing home because all we want to do is just sit down and relax. But when you get there, where do you go? Not every home comes equipped with that perfect oasis to retreat to. Wouldn’t it be nice, though, to have a place in the comfort of your own home that makes you feel like you just walked into a fancy spa?
Actually, it’s not as difficult as you might think. You can create a sanctuary anywhere in your home and it doesn’t need to be that elaborate if you don’t want it to be. Just a few essential items are really needed to make a space feel comfortable and relaxing. I feel that the reason why spas are so revitalizing is because they immerse you in a place where nearly all your senses are stimulated.
When your head is spinning and you have your boss’ voice stuck in your head; when you can still smell the odors of the city and you’ve been wearing a fitted outfit all day; the best way to unwind and relax is to erase and replace all of it with things that will soothe and stimulate your senses, like candles, soft linen, essential oils, a massage, and music.
Candles
Candles are probably the first thing that comes to mind when you picture a beautiful spa or romantic bathroom. Candles are wonderful because while we go through our day-to-day we’re constantly straining and irritating our eyes with the sunlight, computer and phone screens, and on the drive home sometimes we get those nasty high-beams! Stepping into a dim space with the soft glow and soothing flicker of a candle can instantly be calming. Here’s our guide on how to create your own home made Aromatherapy Candles.

Soft linen
Nothing is more memorable to me when staying at a hotel than the soft linen. From the bedding to the bath towels, it’s so satisfying to wrap yourself in something soft and cozy. Egyptian cotton is the most expensive and elegant fabric that can be found in high-end hotels, but Pima cotton is very similar for a fraction of the price.
Essential oils
Many say that scent is the most powerful of our 5 senses and therefore is a crucial part in successfully creating a home-spa. Essential oils can be added to your bath, tea, pillow, towel, in a diffuser, or directly on your skin. No matter the application, essential oils are powerful. You can pick and choose from a wide variety of scents which all have their own health benefits and ways of application. Lavender, for example, relieves stress, helps with congestion, promotes sleep, and is good for your skin. A few drops can go in your bath or on your pillow.
Massager
Of course, after a stressful day, there’s nothing better than relieving all your tension with a massage. Having an electric massager makes it possible to do this at home and saves you the hassle of taking time out of your day, driving to a spa and spending the money. Imagine retreating to your private oasis, in your own home, and having a device that you can independently use to relieve all the stress, tension and soreness from a hard day’s work.
Music
To top it all off, there’s nothing like going to a spa and listening to the soft crashing of waves on a beach or fall of rain. My suggestion is to go to Spotify and start making a playlist full of nature sounds, especially the ones involving water, or alternatively, you can just play your favorite, most relaxing tunes. Also, you might want to look into buying a portable speaker for better sound quality and incase you need to move your oasis to a different part of the house!
Doesn’t that seem simple enough? Not a lot is required to create a place inside your home that can make you feel like you’re not there at all but in a dreamy oasis.
